LayTuan Tan holds a Master of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of South Carolina, both in Piano Performance. She won First Place in both the USC Concerto Aria Competition (which resulted in performance with orchestra) and the Columbia Northeast Music Festival Competition and was a finalist at NEC Honors Scholarship Competition. Ms. Tan studied with Raymond Dudley, Stephen Drury, Jean Stackhouse (Pedagogy) and Margot Garrett (Accompaniment).
As an instructor, she is committed to developing the talent within each individual and recognizes the importance of nurturing a love for music within a positive environment. Her students have consistently received first place awards and high honors for outstanding performances in music festivals, first class honors with distinction in RCM examinations and scholarships to attend music programs in the United Kingdom and in the United States including the Juilliard School of Music. From 2014 to 2019, many of LayTuan’s students have successfully competed for and received the opportunity to debut at Carnegie hall each year.
LayTuan Tan has performed in masterclasses with Nelita True, Bela Siki, the National Ballet of Canada’s workshop, the National Choreographic Seminar at Simon Fraser University and has attended the Ferienkurse fur Neuemusik in Darmstadt, Germany. She has been a featured soloist with the Standing Wave Ensemble, Vancouver New Music, Women in View Festival, Time Flies Festival and the Singapore Festival of Arts.
Ms. Tan has been a member of the RCM College of Examiners since 2005.
