Jon Lee was born in Seoul, Korea and moved to Vancouver, Canada at age 13. He first began learning and playing music on the piano at age 10 and switched to guitar at 12. He enjoyed playing hard rock and heavy metal at that time and has since broadened his musical interests to jazz, blues and world music. He is currently working as a guitarist, composer, arranger, and music educator.
After graduating from high school, Jon Lee moved to Boston, MA and attended Berklee College of Music. He studied jazz guitar and jazz composition and arranging with a number of internationally renowned musicians, including John Wilkins and Richie Hart. After returning to Vancouver, he earned a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies from Capilano University and a bachelor’s degree in music education from University of British Columbia.
While attending New York University for a master’s degree, Jon Lee studied jazz guitar and composition privately with Randy Johnston (guitarist for Lou Donaldson Quartet). His master’s thesis was on informal music learning, supervised by Dr. Wayne D. Bowman (the author of Philosophical Perspectives on Music) at New York University. He also studied with a numerous scholars in music and music education at NYU, such as Dr. John V. Gilbert, Dr. David J. Elliott, and Dr. Marissa Silverman.
As a musician, Jon Lee has composed, arranged, and performed at a variety of venues around the globe (Canada, U.S., Argentina, and Korea). He has also performed with a number of internationally credited players like Bob Mintzer, Jimmy Greene, and Hugh Fraser. He has recently finished his tour with Martin Nemcovsky, Esteban Maxera, and Alvaro Manzaero in Argentina. His album Intuition was released in summer 2013, and the second album is scheduled to be out in late summer 2014.
As a music educator, Jon Lee has taught band and choir at both elementary and secondary schools in Canada and U.S.A. for past 8 years. He has also provided private lessons on guitar, composition & arranging, and music theory for more than 600 students over the last 19 years. He is the director of the guitar programs in Delta School District, Canada and teaching Gr. 6 & 7 band at Sunshine Hills Elementary School. Jon Lee is a member of major professional music organizations: MENC, IAJE, NYCMEA, NJMEA, CMEA, and BCMEA.
Anna Pietrzak is a versatile guitarist and educator. She received her doctorate degree at the Academy of Music in Wroclaw, where she studied with Mark Zielinski. Before that she studied in Greece with Costas Cotsiolisa. Anna Pietrzak has received many awards in several solo and chamber-music competitions in Austria, Greece, Romania and Poland. Anna has released three albums, all of which received positive reviews in the established music press. British magazine “Classical Guitar” wrote that Anna Pietrzak is an important musician who can handle emotions and captivate audiences. Anna has performed with chamber ensembles and as a soloist with
orchestras in Poland, Sweden, Greece, Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and Slovakia. In 2017 she is invited to perform with the Toronto Concert Orchestra led by Kerry Stratton and to deliver a series of master classes. Currently Dr. Anna Pietrzak teaches students in guitar and chamber music as well as pedagogy at the Academy of Music in Wroclaw, Poland.
