Born in Taichung, Taiwan, Ann Chen obtained her Bachelor of Music in Piano from the University of British Columbia in 2013 and Bachelor of Education in 2014. Ann is a pianist, a vocalist, and a conductor.
As a pianist, she has studied piano performance and techniques with Miranda Wong, Rena Sharon, Alice Enns, Lisa Kim, Kenneth Thompson, Tzong-Kai Kuo, and Juanelva Rose. Ann is not only an accomplished pianist, but also a conductor and vocalist. She was selected to perform in National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Honours Chorus, NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) All-State Honours Chorus, and All-County Chorus from 2007 to 2009 in the United States. She has sung in numerous choirs such as UBC University Singers, Vancouver Cantata Singers, Cor Flammae and Josquin Singers. She also records vocals for the Cypress Choral Music Publishing company. Ann was the artistic director of Essonance Chamber Choir from 2013 to 2014, the choir received runnerup of Honourable Barbara A Hagerman award at Performing Arts BC provincial. Ann is currently the Choir Master and section leader of St. John’s Shaughnessy Anglican Church.
She is deeply in love with the harmonies that human beings bring together; her goal is to pursue a master’s degree in choral conducting and a doctorate in the future.
